AJ Millward
After seventeen years in the New Zealand public service, AJ founded Transcend Consulting to focus on her passion: collaborating with great people on meaningful projects. In addition to her senior roles spanning strategy, policy, and crisis management, AJ has significant experience partnering with local and national businesses to solve complex problems and drive improvement. She has advised organisations across sectors, helping them navigate regulatory environments, implement change, and achieve innovative results, giving her a unique perspective that bridges government and business.
AJ specialises in delivering results for clients operating in fast-paced and ambiguous environments and enjoys challenging projects. As a professional Director, AJ believes strongly in the need for good governance. She has completed her Company Directors Course and provides governance advice to businesses on a regular basis.
Principal Associate
Malcolm Luey LL.M (Hons)
Having worked in the public service for 30 years, Malcolm has worked in a wide range of public service agencies and departments. This has included positions in the Health & Disability Commissioner’s office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade, Ministry of Justice, Crown Law Office, Department of Prime Minister & Cabinet, Customs, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment.
His experience includes strategy and policy development, service design and innovation, law reform, national security, AML policy, international negotiations, Crown litigation, machinery of government, organisational transformation, public service digitalisation, and the governance of public/private partnerships to achieve public service outcomes.
Malcolm is now the founder and managing director of ID8tion Solutions offering consultancy services to both the public and private sector, as well as a Principal Associate to Transcend.
Senior Associate
Tom Milton
Tom is an experienced policy professional with a proven track record of delivery. He has strong knowledge and experience in developing and implementing policies to deliver Government priorities in economic development, natural resources, environment and public sector financial management.
Before joining Transcend Consulting, he held roles as a Principal Advisor at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and Private Secretary to a senior Cabinet Minister. He has an excellent understanding of Ministerial and government perspectives, and helps our clients navigate government systems and processes.
Tom finds a way to get to the heart of what matters in complex and ambiguous situations, to deliver effective results for our clients. He is skilled at being able to communicate technical information clearly to a range of different audiences. Clients especially value Tom’s high productivity and excellent writing skills.

Karyn Green
Karyn brings her significant experience in supporting organisations to develop, plan and deliver effective organisational review, design and change. She has a track record of delivering results across core organisational and people performance dimensions for both public and private sector clients.
Karyn’s stand out skills are her engaging and personable approach, her professionalism, coupled with a deeply held personal commitment to working with people at all levels of organisations to design and deliver better workplaces, better people development strategies and better results through people. Karyn’s calm and sophisticated approach gives her the ability to credibly engage key stakeholders through change management processes.
Karyn’s experience has also equipped her with the skills and capability to easily traverse and perform to a high-level across multiple aspects of people capability and change management, organisational review and design, and strategic people initiatives.
Karyn holds a Bachelor of Social Work and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration in Human Resources Management and Services.

Jackson Barber
Jackson is a highly motivated and outcome-focused professional with Big 4 consulting experience and a transformation mind-set. Jackson has successfully delivered national and international projects, using his HR background to apply a people-first mind-set to navigate complex and ambiguous environments.
Jackson’s experience spans strategy, operating model/organisational design and workforce strategy/planning. For the past four years Jackson has worked within a multi-national organisation supporting clients across central government and the businesses, including working with iwi and community-based organisations.
